A Saturday Thrift Run

Yesterday I decided at last minute to go thrifting to VV and SallyA, seeing as the weather was absolutely beautiful and warm. Got some lovely vintagenalia for my efforts.

A Holt Howard Girl Cat Salt or Pepper Shaker. It is pretty dinged up and scuffed, and
it is missing the noisemaker mechanism in the bottom. Plus, I bought a pristine set of the
same salt and pepper shakers a few months ago.

But who can resist a Holt Howard Cat for $1.99?
 Not I.

Look at the little flapjacks! This adorable vintagelinen  poodle towel was on the Sally Ann rolling rack waiting to be put out on the floor.

It never made it.

It still has the original pure linen tag on it, and I'm guessing it is from the 50s.
Made in Poland.

Vintage Waterman`s Ink Bottle (still very full) and Skrip Sheaffer`s Ink in Emerald Green

Almost a full bottle and with box. The bottle label was still there in the box.

Some Fun and Cute Things from A Huge Community Garage Sale

The yearly community wide sale in my city last Saturday did not disappoint. It is held in a well-to-do neighbourhood, and there were lots of charities selling goods for awesome prices!

Sweetness! A handful of vintage plastic ladybug craft embellishments, maybe from 70s.
A sparkly red strawberry brooch, unmarked. It's juicy and only cost me $2!
The vintage pink rhododendron saucer sets off the cuties perfectly!

The saucer? Cost me a whole dime!

Vintage 70s goldtone leaf and pearl cluster choker necklace, excellent condition, for $4

Groovy mushroom pendant

Some more Treasures and Deals from Thrift Store and rummage sales

With the spring weather, comes some fresh vintage finds!

Kitty cat in a basket Get Well card. I can't resist vintage cat cards. Ever!
I love the pink and purple flowers, and the cat's sweet look.
It was 25 cents at St. V. de P.

Vintage 1970s Hallmark Danish cast iron candle holder. The holes are tiny, they are for mini
Danish taper candles. Interesting design.

When I got it home, it didn't seem so special looking, but I am a sucker about the cool
cardboard box, especially from Hallmark.

Can you recognize the cat?....

It is a vintage 1979 Kliban Cat coffee mug. The cats seem to have evolved over later years. It
says Cheers and the cat is sneaking into the punch bowl! It has some bad pencil crazing inside,
but otherwise in very good condition. It was only 99 cents from Sally Ann's.

I am obsessed with vintage rosette birthday cake candle holders. I have such good memories
of them from my own birthday parties. I found a Zip baggie full of random candles
and pretty candle holders at a church rummage sale.

In the photo is also a box 12 unused candle holders from an earlier visit to  St. V. de P's
that I bought for 65 cents! I love the bright pink printing.

They were placed in the kids section, mixed in with some modern toys, so luckily
no one noticed them before I did. It was 50 cents for the whole bag!

I puzzled over these ones, but I did some searching, and found out these candle holders were
placed on the outer edge of the cake (put in vertically) so that you could decorate the top of the cake.
Unfortunately I broke one while I was cleaning them.

Vintage wooden doll heads. They look like Darice doll heads, but they were in a loose bag

Heads will roll.

Once again, some more treasures from Rummage Sale

I found some very interesting and unique postcards from a big pile in a wire basket. They were donated by the same person I believe. The sales woman let slip that a volunteer had already picked out several of them for his collection before the sale started. Oh well.

Vintage Happy New Year card from 1907. It is bronze and gold with mica glitter! Swoon!

It's in very good shape considering its age.

A few vintage souvenir postcards from London and Italy circa 1960s and 1970s.

The Italy postcard is stamped 1960. Canadian postage was 4 cents.

The writer is a female named Anne. "Please tell Bert next time he is down he must have dinner with us, no excuses...Am just working spasmodically now."...(I believe she mean "sporadically"...it's funny though to imagine her body jerking around in spasms at work)....."Sold wheelbarrows at Eatons yesterday (illegible) and a little Avon today. " Although she is working sporadically selling wheelbarrows, she "went riding last Sunday", "Tennis starts next week" and she is "Just off to the dressmaker", so things aren't that bad....

The London postcard is post office stamped 1963 and is addressed to "Ronald" from "Mother".

"The flight over was ok. I wasn't sick although there was a lot of turbulence. At first we could see nothing but blackness...and the clouds below looked like the snowfields of the Antarctic. It was gray and cold and wet here....-58 degrees (eek)

A vintage Dutch postcard with an adorable girl riding a wagon pulled by a big doggie.
She sure has a biiig basket of tulips behind her.

The basket flips upward to reveal a tiny strip of black and white souvenir photographs of the Netherlands.

Last but not least, a vintage early 20th century black and white postcard of American actress Evelyn Nesbitt posing for the photograph entitled "Little Butterfly". I did a quick Internet search on this... Can you believe she was only 16 in the photo! It's so beautifully done.

I waffled about going at first, but I'm glad I finally decided to go. I got there 10 minutes after it started and the room was packed!

Vintage Vogart Puppies and Kitties Iron On Transfers. So cute, I've been wanting these for a whil

Drunk bunny Dennsion coasters. Silly bunny!

Finds for Month of March

Some of my favourite finds this month.

I found this Pyrex divided casserole with a metal and wood warming cradle at St. Vincent de Paul's for $3.95. Usually I won't buy a casserole without the lid. However, I knew I had the right lid for it at home, so home it went cradled in my arms (well, into my shopping bag).

I brought it home to reunite it with the stray Sunflower casserole lid I had picked up last year in perfect condition at Value Village for $1.99. A perfect match! So I have the largest size Pyrex sunflower casserole with lid and warming cradle and paid only about $6 total!

A large bag of Christmas Gurley candles from the 50s for very cheap. There were four trees, one Santa, a snowman, and two choir boys in the bag.

Sweet vintage cards from the 50s...look how the baby's bottom is hanging out of his diaper!

Dribs and Drabs at the thrift

I haven't posted my finds in a looong while. There have been some goodies here and there.

Otagiri lacquerware bowl - originally held a set of coasters, I think. Very pretty white and gold with trees. The pattern is called "Golden Mist".

Cute vintage wooden cake candle holder. So sweet, a lady with her apron.
I searched for others, but this was the only figure. It was 19 cents at SA.
I also found a brand new music background rubber stamp at Value Village
for $2.99.
